Plenary session: AgriFI: plans and expectations

The Agricultural Finance Initiative (AgriFI) is a new initiative of the European Union that aims at increasing investment in smallholder agriculture and agribusiness micro, small and medium enterprises in order to achieve inclusive and sustainable agricultural growth. The EU will be providing risk capital, guarantees and other risk management mechanisms to de-risk investments in agriculture, thus crowding in private sector funding for agriculture. AgriFI will be backed up by business development and advisory services for farmers and agri-entrepreneurs. Most AgriFI investments will be done within the EU blending framework, but there will also be a grant window through Calls for Proposals. Individual investments are expected to be in the €200,000 to €5 million range. The session will update the audience on the latest developments with AgriFI and set out the immediate plans.
