BNDE, a financial institution created in 1967 to support the development of the country through the financing of productive sectors, especially in rural areas. As such, BNDE pioneered rural finance. From direct funding to breeders and Agricultural Producers' Organizations, BNDE highlights today the refinancing of MFIs and leasing of agricultural equipment.
Her professional career began in the public sector where she has held several senior positions before embracing a career in the banking sector. She was Director General of the Burundian Society of Bank and Financing (SBF) which was bought by the Ecobank Group. She will remain a member of the Board of Directors of Ecobank Burundi for 7 years, from August 2008 to August 2015. Ms. Donavine NIYONGABIRE was also Director of Cabinet of the Burundian Ombudsman and Legal Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic of Burundi before joining BNDE in May 2015. Mrs. NIYONGABIRE holds a Masters degree in Administrative Law from the Université Libre de Bruxelles.
