Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar was elected governor of Jigawa State in April 2015. He is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress Party (APC). He served as an Auditor with the Audit Department of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Kano State, in 1987 and resigned in 1991 to establish his business outfit Talamiz Company, which grew into a conglomerate with interests in automobile distribution, logistics (including maritime and road transport), haulage, real estate, manufacturing, construction, agriculture and agro-allied, and commodity distribution, and branches in Nigeria, Niger, Egypt, Holland, Saudi Arabia and Belgium.

He is a member of the National Council on Privatisation, and the past national president of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture as well as the second vice president of the Federation of West Africa Chamber of Commerce (FEWACCI), He holds a B.Sc in Accounting from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, and is an alumnus of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS). He is a Recipient of National Honour of the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) and Traditional Titles Holder of Sardauna of Ringim Emirate, and Wali of Jahun, all in Jigawa State.
